At the Library

Recently Cary Ann and I attended the Washington County Riverboat grant award ceremony. It was a wonderful evening seeing so many worthy projects being funded in our county. We appreciate the generosity of both the Riverboat, and our own library foundation for providing the funds to be able to embark on a new program at our library.

On December 1st we had our first registration for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten. This national program challenges families of young learners to read 1000 books before they enter kindergarten.

In our children’s area we have put together themed backpacks filled with 10 books for quick checkout for busy parents, or participants can browse our collection, or use their home libraries to select the books they choose to read. If a child has a favorite book and reads it 1000 times that’s ok too.

The library staff will be ready to celebrate reading milestones with families by awarding reading incentive prizes as they record their books. We feel this program is a great opportunity in getting kids ready to read, and we look forward to supporting all of our families on their journey in reaching their reading goals.

We wish everyone a happy month of celebrating December holidays. Be sure to stop in to see our lovely Hospice trees. So many wonderful people to be remembered during this beautiful time of year.
