At the Library
by Tammy Valentine

As I look at the calendar I cannot believe it is July already. Our cold, wet spring seemed to go on forever, while May and June were a blur of activity with our summer reading programs and a large variety of adult programs.

So maybe now we can slow down a bit and enjoy the middle of summer with some new programs. One of the new programs is our movie series called Classic Cinema. This program features classic films, shown on the third Monday of each month at 6pm. July’s movie will be “Shop Around the Corner”, a 1940 classic with Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart. Even though the movies will be shown in the library, feel free to bring a lawn chair for comfort as some movies can be lengthy.

Another new program is Game Night, which will give friends and families a respite from the heat during farmer’s market nights. We all remember playing board games with our families and the library wants to extend that tradition. So, each Thursday at 5pm games will be set up in the Washington State Bank room on the 2nd level so patrons can enjoy a game together.

Our Happy Ukulele Group is adding a special get together this month with a Ukulele Camp! This will be held on July 16th at 5pm, at the Lodge in Marr Park. We will gather around a campfire, play our ukuleles and sing to our hearts content. I encourage anyone to attend who wants to help out with the singing, as some of us (meaning me) can’t carry a tune. Please call the library to register to ensure that we have enough treats to go around.

The grand finale to the adult summer reading program will be “Dodici’s: The Beginning”! We are so excited to have Isabella Santoro and her family present a program about how Dodici’s came to Washington. This will be help on Monday, July 25th at 6pm.

We hope as the heat of summer bears down on us that you come on in to find your favorite summertime read. If you need some help finding something just ask any of the staff, we love to surprise you!
