At the Library
by LeAnn Kunz

Iowa singer/songwriter Carol Montag will be visiting the Washington Writers’ Workshop on Saturday, October 22, from 10 am to noon at the Washington Public Library. She will be presenting a special songwriting workshop, which will include discussion of why we write songs, what makes a good song and a good songwriter, the categories of songs, song forms, and tools of the trade, as well as the roadblocks and hard truths of the craft. This workshop is open to adults and teens and no registration is required.

Carol will also be giving a free concert at 2 pm on that same day where she will be performing the music of Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, as well as original music. She has been described by folk music legend Tom Paxton as a “genuine discovery” and “the best thing to come out of Iowa since Bonnie Koloc.” Her influences include Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Eva Cassidy, Julie Andrews, John Denver, and James Taylor to name a few. She has recorded four solo albums and two Christmas CDs. She was commissioned to write music for Ballet Iowa and Ballet LaCrosse and performed live with both companies. Carol was invited by the US Ambassador of Cambodia, Kennet Quinn, to perform at the 2010 World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony. Carol performs original songs, traditional and contemporary folk, and songs from the Great American Songbook on acoustic guitar and piano.

Our community is fortunate to have Carol spending the day with us. Please join us for one or both of these events.
