At the Library

By Tammy Valentine

The past few weeks the library staff has been planning a major event and it is actually a new event for our library. On November 5 the library will be hosting our very first author festival called Washington AuthorFest. The event includes an informational program on the self-publishing service called Biblioboard, a reading from seven of our local authors, an hour of authors signing their books, and also a reading from our keynote author, Heather Gudenkauf.

Our event will start off with a short informational program Biblioboard, which is a new self-publishing service the library will be offering. This service will allow writers of all levels to digitally publish their work, allowing library patrons to read what independent authors have created. We have writers of cookbooks, fiction, poetry, personal essays and family stories who are excited for this, so they can share their work with others.

Next, we will begin the local authors’ reading where each author will read a passage from one of their books. The morning will feature four local authors, John Bain, Summer Lisk, Julianne Gentz, and Jean Wolf Logan.

At 11 am our keynote author, Heather Gudenkauf, will do her reading. She is a New York Times bestselling author with her work translated into 20 different languages. She is an Iowa native and you can find references to Iowa all througout her books.

The afternoon will include the authors signing their books for patrons followed by the authors’ luncheon catered by CafeDodici.

We will begin the afternoon readings with Dave Stoufer followed by Corinne Stanley and Dan Henderson.

For the schedule of the Washington AuthorFest you can go to our website calendar and click on the event. This will show you the details of the event and the schedule of authors. If you have any questions, feel free to call the library at 653-2726.
