At the Library 05/20/21

by Tammy Valentine

Our doors are unlocked, things are mostly back to normal, and all is right with the world, well mostly. I am very excited to begin, again, with adult programming. I was able to have only 2 book discussions before Covid shut me down. I will start with Adult Summer Reading and Tai Chi and who knows what else I can come up with!

Summer reading reminds me of my childhood, sitting outside in a lawn chair reading The Three Investigators and Sherlock Holmes. Then when I was older I was reading Harlequin romances and Louis L’Amour, classics! There is something special about reading while being outside, with the heat, the light and the sounds of summer. I want to replicate that feeling a bit with the Adult Summer Reading Program.

In June we will be enjoying Joanne Fluke and her mystery series that includes yummy desserts, recipes included. Everybody will pick the Joanne Fluke of their choice from the library and bring it to our first meet and greet, which will be in Central Park on June 4th at 10am. We will chat about our selections and get to know each other. Then we end our Joanne Fluke month on June 18th at 6pm for a book discussion and a dessert picnic! Nothing says summer like a picnic!

July is HOT HOT HOT! So, we will be reading any book with HOT in the title. We will continue with our outside book discussions on July 16th at 6pm in Central Park. Bring a lawn chair and cold drink and then relax as we have another great book discussion.

Our adult programming outside will include our first Tai Chi program! June 18th at 9am, so wear something comfortable. Don’t be shy as I have never done Tai Chi either!

Choose one or all of the adult programs! Register by calling the library at 653-2726 or emailing me at tammy.valentine@washington.lib.ia.us.
