Debbie Stanton began work as the Washington Library's Director on October 1, 2011.  Debbie is a former employee of the library, working as a Library Assistant from 2008 to 2009, and as Youth Services Librarian of the Kalona Public Library from 2006 to 2008.  She returned to the library from Kenai, Alaska where she worked as a Grant Assistant for the Kenaitze Indian Tribe and Cataloger for the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center.

Debbie holds a Masters Degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Alabama and began her MLIS studies at the University of Iowa School of Library and Information Science.  She holds an undergraduate degree in Library Science from the University of Maine at Augusta.

Debbie has served on the Washington Community School District Board of Education and the Washington Library Political Action Committee.  She has acted as the Secretary of the Iowa Library Associations’ Youth Services Subdivision and served on the Iowa State Library Youth Services Advisory Committee. She completed a term on the Governor-appointed Southeast Iowa STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Board as the Library rep, and currently serves on the Iowa Library Association's Executive Board.
