Children's Collection

The Children's Collection offers a wide range of materials for all types of reading levels.

Young Children

We offer many items ranging from board books to board games. The Children's Room is organized so the central bins contain the majority of our Easy Reader Picture Books (E).  The west shelves contain the late alphabet authors and favorite series books such as: Clifford, Disney, Magic School Bus, Arthur and many more.

For beginning readers we have two collections: Primary and Reader. Primary is for kids just starting out and the Reader section is for the more advanced early readers which include early chapter books. The Primary section contains early non-fiction books as well.  These are located on the east shelves in the Children's Room.

The Nonfiction Books are located on the free-standing shelf.  This section spans a wider range of reading levels but includes many books for younger children.

Other materials available for checkout are Read-A-Long Books with cassette or CD and several classic and current movie releases. Magazines such as Sports Illustrated for Kids, American Girl, and Boys Life are available to browse and older issues can be checked out.  The magazines are located near the checkout desk.

School-Age Children

Juvenile Fiction (JF) books are located in the Juvenile Collection room in the southwest corner. Kids will enjoy books by popular authors such as Mary Pope Osborne, who writes the Magic Tree House series, Judy Blume, and Gary Paulsen, author of Hatchet, River, and Brian’s Winter.  There are specific shelves for new books and audio books.

The Nonfiction books are located on the free-standing shelf.  This section spans a wider range of reading levels but includes many books for our more advanced child readers.

Juvenile Biographies (JB) are located on the west wall off the end of the Nonfiction shelves. We carry recent biographies on our current president to older biographies on some interesting characters like Wild Bill Hickok, Sojourner Truth, or Sitting Bull.
